Project prerequisites: Digital transformation. Generation Z. Information perception specifics. Education customization, adaptive solutions and platforms.
Project alternatives: delivering face-to-face compensating courses on mathematical disciplines, which have the problem of low attendance by students. Besides, this solution requires more time for routine work of teachers for student knowledge compensation to the level of university education and the ability to digest the university program.
Creation of an adaptive mathematics course is the first stage of implementing the project of adaptive platform development.
Advanced technology of the solutions implies participation in a partner project — one of Tomsk companies developing such IT systems — Enbisys. Partners have the experience of development of adaptive educational platforms and continuously operate on the European market, ensuring education of approximately 12 million people at the same time.
The project provides for development of the platform and a pilot course in mathematics, as well as carrying out research with the goal to study impact of mathematics on development of cognitive abilities of students and the impact of adaptive algorithms on development of motivation and education customization.
Project management is based on the agile methodology representing an agile approach to project management, oriented at dynamic formation of requirements and implementation thereof, resulting from continuous interaction within the self-organizing team consisting of specialists in various disciplines, including external IT specialists.
Project purpose:
The purpose of the entire project is to create an adaptive educational online platform of TSU to solve problems of improvement of motivation and education customization for university students, and talent management enhancement.
The purpose of the first stage of project implementation is to create conditions and opportunities for customization of teaching mathematics to first-year TSU students and prospective students with the view of compensation of their knowledge level in mathematics based on an adaptive online course.
Project objectives:
Objectives of the entire project:
-
Development of a model of an adaptive educational online platform of TSU;
-
Development of an adaptive algorithm;
-
Development of addenda to LMS MOODLE to ensure content adaptation and formation of individual educational trajectories for students in the electronic information educational environment of TSU;
-
Development of psychological characteristics and conditions of education, when creating an adaptive system.
Objectives of one discipline track (mathematics):
- Development of an adaptive compensation course in mathematics to improve the level of performance in mathematics for first-year students;
- Description of ontology of the topic “Algebraic transformations”;
- Creation of excessive content in mathematics for an adaptive course on the base of developed algorithms and ontology;
- Mathematical content hosting by the adaptive educational online platform;
- Platform and content testing;
- Platform validation;
- Identification of impact of mathematics on cognitive abilities of students;
- Study of impact of adaptive algorithms on development of motivation and education customization;
- Arrangement for and provision of technical support.
Anticipated Project results:
-
Developed adaptive educational online platform of TSU
-
Adaptive compensation course in mathematics
-
Add-in for LMS MOODLE for adaptive solution integration
-
Improvement of the level of performance in mathematical disciplines of first-year students
-
Reduction of the number of expelled students due to low performance in mathematics
