As a visionary university in science and education, Tomsk State University pays a lot of attention to creating infrastructural support for the educational process and comfortable living. This year, ten more classes will be equipped with the Aktru system, and dormitories will have new co-working spaces.
Lockdown demonstrated the need for hybrid educational spaces. This led to twelve university rooms being equipped with a unique educational platform Aktru in the 2020/21 academic year. Aktru allows teachers to conduct lectures combining on- and offline education. Twenty-three rooms were equipped for a lecturer’s self-recording. In the new academic year, ten more rooms will be furnished with the same equipment.
“These rooms will be located all over the campus, not only in the main building. We tried to make using these rooms as easy as possible for lecturers. The teacher just needs to come and give a lecture, and the AI system will do everything else,” explains Evgeny Lukov, TSU Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs.
As Evgeny Lukov noted, the Aktru system is just the first step to create a cutting-edge educational infrastructure on campus. TSU will continue developing hybrid formats so that in the future students might not be in the same classroom or even the same country.
TSU is renovating not only educational infrastructure, but living spaces as well. Dormitory No. 3 underwent full repair. Rooms were repaired in dormitories No. 5, 6, 7, and 8 and the residence hall Parus; 75 rooms were repaired in total. Storage rooms were prepared in dormitories No. 7 and 8.
“We are now finishing furnishing. Due to the current epidemiological situation, the students will be arriving till the end of October, and by then all the work will have been finished. The rooms will have new closets, shelves, tables and chairs, and new beds, etc.,” says Dmitry Son, Deputy Vice-Rector for Social Affairs.
Moreover, by the end of September, two new co-working spaces will be opened in Dormitory No. 2 and Parus.
