Massive open courses for teachers

About online courses

Massive open online courses (MOOC) as an educational format emerged in the early 2010s and today form an important part of life of many people all over the world, striving for new knowledge and self-development.

In 2014, TSU relied on development of own online courses, resulting in our first MOOC “Sketches of Siberia. The city of Tomsk” – a course for studying Russian as a foreign language, oriented to make the listeners familiar with the history and cultural heritage of Tomsk.

Today, the online course portfolio of TSU includes more than 100 MOOCs hosted by various educational platforms, such as Coursera or Stepik, and the number of listeners of our MOOCs has exceeded 1 million. A team of specialists from the Online Course Development and Support Center of TSU Institute of Distance Education performs the full cycle of MOOC production, including support, promotion, and research in the sphere of online learning. Jointly with experts, we will help the online course developers to implement their most interesting ideas.

TSU annually develops more than 10 online courses in collaboration with the best teachers of the university and external experts. Since 2021, the Institute of Distance Education has also created online Master’s degree programs.

MOOC for teachers

MOOC for teachers
  • MOOC-based learning

Even specialists of the highest level sometimes need to increase their qualification and learn something new. MOOCs afford this opportunity. That is why it’s become easier to develop professional skills and professional culture, obtain new competences, and update theoretical and practical knowledge of teachers and employees.

  • MOOC integration

TSU partnership with the Coursera online platform provides teachers with a unique opportunity to differentiate, complement and enrich their educational programs with examples and experience based on online courses developed by other world leading universities, using parts, modules and elements of such MOOCs.

  • Creation of own MOOCs

TSU teachers can develop their own MOOC. At TSU Institute of Distance Education, a qualified team of the Center for Online Course Development and Support, that has advanced technologies and equipment, vast experience and competences, will help to implement any idea, develop your own MOOC and will render services connected with course hosting by online platforms, support of teaching students from TSU and external listeners, and provide analytics. An online course can be integrated partially or in full in an educational program, as well as totally substitute a discipline. In the second case, the course is re-credited, if, upon its completion, the students have received a verified certificate, having undergone a proctoring procedure, and the employees of the Center for Online Course Development and Support will eagerly help in this.
